I am a novelist and screenwriter who grew up in Boston, descended from Nova Scotia, Grand Banks fishermen. I fell in love with Nantucket on my very first visit on a Columbus Day weekend way back in 1983. The haunting quality of its history is unlike any other place I've been. I honeymooned there on another Columbus Day weekend in 1998. My novel, Distress Signal, is my attempt to distill and define the elusive wisps of inspiration that Nantucket taunts me with. They are fleeting thoughts and feelings like half remembered dreams.
