Humans Of Nantucket
By Rachel Fabiszak
Can you tell me a moment in your life when you were most happy?
“I had just moved to California from living on Nantucket to begin a five month stay in Berkeley, CA. I was only there for about two to three days. I had just started browsing through some used t-shirts at a department store in Berkeley. I got to this rack after barely browsing that had about 200 or so used t-shirts on it. They were on a couple of bars on coat hangers parallel to each other so that you couldn’t read what was written on it. I saw this one that was this nice sort of navy blueish color, kind of purpley too. It was a good dark hue and I liked it. I picked it off the rack and I kid you not: it was a Something Natural t-shirt. It was the very first t-shirt I reached for. I stood there in disbelief for a moment and I stood there and started laughing so hard. 'This place can’t escape me, this place is a part of me,' I said to myself. I don’t necessarily believe in coincidences or synchronicities either way. I am not sure that it was a message from above or it was random. I wouldn’t claim to know. It struck me. Again it was uncanny. I was laughing so hard that people were stopping to look at me in this department store. I bought the shirt--it was three bucks.”
