“What was one of your favorite performances?”
“In high school I auditioned and got into the Allstate Choral Festival. I actually had a soprano solo and beat like fifty sopranos for it. Just for the sheer novelty of a guy doing this part instead of the girls. We sang at Symphony Hall and it’s just so cool to be given that opportunity to sing in an old place as a kid. Most of us if we really thought about it at the moment will never sing in that hall again. Some might but most of us won’t. But for a second we were on stage and not just on stage but walked up as a group. We filed in and out of the stage as you would if you were part of an orchestra, chorus group, or jazz band. We were going through the tunnels of the Symphony Hall. And we were walking the same grounds that Yo Yo Ma did. That was inspirational for sure. It was cool to do that in high school and it’s tough to beat that.”
