There's an App for That

How can our animal companions benefit from today's hand held technology? Well here's a list of my favorite apps for Iphone and/or Android that will assist people and animals alike.

1. "ALDF Crime Tips"
Recently launched (and the only app of it's kind) by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, this app is designed to help you help animals—by letting you report abuse and neglect of animals in your community right from your phone. Submit audio, video, picture, and GPS information of any incident straight to the nearest law enforcement authorities.  Be the voice for those who cannot ask for help.

2. "Cruelty Free"
Published by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program, this shopping guide lists over 200 U.S. and Canadian companies that do not test ingredients, formulations, or finished products on animals.  Search or browse companies alphabetically and by product categories so you can feel good about your purchases.

3. "Off Leash"
Brought to you by Eukenuba the "Off Leash" app locates the five dog-friendly parks nearest to your location and provides driving directions to get there.  As dog owners will know,  a tired dog is a good dog.  Find a park to play in!

4. "petMD Dog Emergencies"
Should you have a canine crisis, this app will help you with what to do until you can get some proper veterinary help. Offering fast and clear advice for the most common dog emergencies, the $1.99 cost will be more than worth it.

5. "Pet Master Pro" or "My Pets Pro"
This is one handy app to store all your pet's vital information including vet appointments, vaccinations, diet, excercise, walking routes and photos.  A comprehensive and useful tool for pet owners on the go.

Unfortunately because I use an Android, I do not have access to the APple Store online (I don't have an iTunes account either).  I assure readers if they google the app name they will quickly find the links.  Happy App-ing!
