Pet Supplies for Hurricane Victims

It's been a few weeks since Hurricane Sandy devestated the Eastern Seaboard but supplies and assistance are still urgently needed.  You may have seen or heard around Nantucket that Arlene O'Reilly and Geoff Smith, along with several other instrumental organziers, teamed up for a collections drive that was delivered to the New York City metro area.  I happy to report that Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animal and Geronimo's also teamed up to donate cat food, dog food and pet supplies from Nantucket to Breezy Point, NY (thanks to Hy Line Cruises and Dreamland Theater).

Round Two has begun on Nantucket and this time the focus is on cleaning supplies (Garbage bags, bleach, rubber gloves, face masks, heavy duty scrub sponges, buckets, mops, brooms, rakes, garbage cans, wheel barrels), non perishble canned goods and PET SUPPLIES!  This includes cat litter, dry or wet food for cats and dogs, small fleece blankets, leases, pet beds, small animal bedding (for gerbils, hamsters, rats) and more.  Please donate your un-used pet supplies to The Seadog at 15 S. Water St, or The Muse at 44 Surfside Road by tomorrow night, Thursday Nov 15th.  Volunteers are needed on Friday, Nov. 16th in the afternoon to assist with sorting and packing  (thanks to Sun Island Delivery for use of their truck).  It's an amazing feeling to work side by side with your neighbors, readying materials to be sent to people who need it most.  I felt inspired by the generosity of our island.  Have you donated already?

You can find all the updates at the Facebook events HERE.  Be sure to check it frequently, as departure times and donation needs are posted often.
