Canine Couture for a Cause

Canine Couture for a Cause

I have got three words for you: Dogs. In. Dresses.

All summer long I see posters and advertisements for fundraising events for dozens of local non-profits, but there is only one party I have on my calendar: Paws for the Cause - Dressed to the K-Nines.

On Wednesday, July 23, the Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animals will host an evening of entertainment, auctions, food and cocktails to benefit the island’s animal shelter.

In addition to the usual smoozing and elbow-rubbing, this event will also include a fashion show featuring 20 dogs wearing the latest canine couture. I pondered entering the fashion show myself, but I prefer to go “au naturale.” Plus, I don’t have the doggie swagger to work a runway. But I’ll definitely be front and center to watch the show and maybe even shout out some “cat” calls. My friends hate that!

This year, Paws for the Cause will be held at Barlett's Farm Tent, which means plenty of parking and no need to fight the crowds in town.

Come on, people. If 20 local dogs are willing to get dressed up and make fools of themselves, the least you can do is fork over a little money and come out and cheer them on.

Not that you need another reason to go, but remember that NSHA is a wonderful local non-profit that in the past few years has evolved from a passionate group of volunteers to an island institution. With the generosity of the year-round and summer communities, the NSHA has helped hundreds of animals in need.

Thank you so much for this article! We are very excited to be reintroducing this event - it's a lot of fun and supports such a great cause. Not only does NSHA operate every single day of the year to welcome needy animals who need shelter, but we help the community in lots of other ways! We've done low/no-cost spay and neuter, humane education, advocacy and we aid elderly community members who need help with their pets. Please come out the 23rd for this unique event! General Admission is only $100 and gets you parking, auctions, food, open bar and the SHOW! Best deal of the summer!
