Freaky Friday: What Are You Waiting For?
Freaky Friday: This Freaky Friday comes on a Wednesday, gearing up for my birthday. Stay tuned for more posts: How to Spot a Jerk, It's The Little Things, and a few more posts dealing with love, relationships, dating and anything else the human soul may need answered.
Most of us have done it...waited until the perfect moment or the right moment as they say to do something...but why?
While eating at Proprietors with a girl friend, I bumped into another friend whom happened to be male. We all chatted for a bit and then he walked away.
"What about that guy? He's really cute." She was referencing my holding out for the marshmallow (sex).
"I know! He has a girlfriend though."
She grabbed my arm, "May I ask you a question?"
"What are you waiting for?"
This question caught me off guard. I knew on some level why I was holding out but the way she phrased it made me rethink and question my motives. I gave her my answer but what she said stuck with me and I haven't been the same since. Side note: it takes a real friend to sincerely ask you why you do what you do.
I grew up with parents that told me to always question authority. I'm starting to believe in questioning one's own authority. The thoughts and questions that have been running through my mind have helped me reach a level of clarity. Why do we wait? Why do we put off what we want? Is it better to wait for something that may never come or have what is right in front of us? Is life a waiting game? Is living for today an important part of enjoying tomorrow? What's worth waiting for? Is waiting fear-based? What's holding you back? Is waiting the lazy way out? Will waiting lead to unhappiness?
I want to know, what are your thoughts? Have you ever felt you waited too long for something? Did you miss an opportunity because you waited? Email me at [email protected] and let me know.
