The Five Keys to Wellness
Merriam-Webster Definition of WELLNESS [wel-nis]:
the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal
Wellness is Love. Love of yourself. Love of your friends/family. Love of your body. One must love and care for one’s self to be equipped to love and care for others. To me, Wellness is every aspect of your life in a state of Love.
So, are you well, Nantucketers? There are five areas I consider Wellness to encompass. Each is important to have a happy, balanced, and well Life. If any one of these key components is in a state of imbalance, the rest of your life usually follows, whether it be great or small issues.
Body - How do you take care of your body? What do you put in your body? How do you feel about your body? Are you tending to your body the way it should be loved?
Mind - How do you take care of your mind? Do you learn something new every day? Do you cause yourself unneeded stress? Are you appreciating your mind the way it should be loved?
Spirit - How do you take care of your spirit? Do you meditate? Do you pray? Do you help others? Do you stand up for who you are? Are you nurturing your spirit the way it should be loved?
Financial - How do you take care of your finances? Do you make responsible choices? Do you live paycheck to paycheck? Do you cause too much financial stress to yourself? Are you stewarding your finances the way they should be loved?
Relationships - How do you take care of your relationships? Do you say “I love you” to someone or something every day? How do you show those you care about that you care? Do you make your relationships, whether romantic or platonic, a priority? Are you cherishing your relationships the way they should be loved?
