The October Punch List

Making last call at seasonal island restaurants

The October Punch List...

As I bit into what will likely be my last Provisions chocolate brioche for the year, it occurred to me that there is more I want to eat on Nantucket than there are days to do so....Or rather, with the rapid-fire sequence of October seasonal restaurant closings, it was time to make a punch list of must-have morsels to have before “Last Call”.  Here is my  food map for the next three weeks.  Perhaps I will follow with a post on gym memberships...

*A sunset glass of vino, a plate of tuna crudo, the swordfish and the sweet, hot hush puppies at Cru.  The decor is fabu and the setting simply priceless.  Last night to do so is 10/14.  Closed TU&W.

* Thai Wild Mushroom Jook at The Pearl.   It’s a hearty, savory congee (watery jasmine rice) topped with local mushrooms, ramps and egg--waaaaay more delicious than I am making it sound.  Last night until Thanksgiving weekend is tonight, 10/07.

*One last breakfast sandwich from Provisions--really great bacon and that tomato jam is so good.  They are the world’s almost best (My vote for the very best is Boulud Sud in NYC even though they are $9).  Provisions’ last day is Columbus Day.

*A kiss goodbye to Indian summer with one last glass of Bandol rosé at The Breeze Bar by the fire.  The Breeze Bar & Cafe at The Nantucket hotel will be open almost year-round.  Not sure how much longer the rosé supply will last...

*Oysters Charlemagne are back on the menu at The Club Car and there are only 5 more opportunities left to try them!  CC last night is 10/14.  Closed M-W.

*Black-eyed Susan’s tuna tartare.  BES closes early (end of October) this year.

*Dinner at the Ship’s Inn--SI is staying open longer (end of October) this year and it is wonderfully cozy in Fall.
